The Nullarbor, SA (aka the tightarse's guide to traveling!)

Our first stop across the Nullarbor but only for a cup of tea and a look at the station, very nice but we decided to use the 'free' camp spots along the way!

Even after this straight road the nullarbor does not have too many bends in it, was a bit warmer then no jacket!

Anyone for golf? He told me to be careful and not hit the golfball near the houses and so I hit it straight down but he hits it right over near the houses but luckily a tree stops it and bounces it back to a bunker

Cliffs at the bight marine park, we saw 2 lots of southern whales in the bight which was lucky as when we got to the 'head of bight' where you have to pay to go down to the viewing platform they were saying that they have not had any whales past this year so we got to see them for free...bonus

This is a mural painting at ceduna it was our first town in SA. Laughed at the lady in the tourist centre as we commented how the free camps in SA did not always include a toilet but the camping in WA is really well set up and she said that SA spends very little on tourists but if you dress up in a pink tou-tou (not sure of the spelling) then they throw money at you so next time we cross we might just do that!

Going down the east coast of the eyre peninsular was a bit boring as it is full of small little fishing villages but these were good to look at called murphy's haystacks, apparently there was a visiting irishman who was an expert on agriculture and he was telling a busload that the farmer here did a good thing and got all his hay collected up (should have looked closer and seen that it was rock)

Elliston on the east coast has a great ocean drive with some spectacular views

Somebody turned the temperature gauge down when we hit SA on the ocean drive they have sculptures on the roadside, we thought for a moment we were on easter island

He loves testing the boundaries and getting too close to the cliffs

Now we are on the east coast of the eyre Peninsular and at Pt Lowly, we preferred this section of the trip after the Nullarbor

Flinders Ranges, we stayed at whyalla the night before and liked that town and beer heaven, pints were only $4.50, might look at a job over here next! Also found a way to stop for morning coffee and not break the bank, go to a pokies club put $1 in the 1 cent machine and only play one game at a time and then go and have your free coffee and biscuit! bargain.

Camping at Mt Bryan - freezing cold that night frost as well, met up with this lovely irish couple, aine and bernard (I have probably spelt your name wrong sorry) and don't you love the van! Steph is also traveling with them over to WA.

on the road to esperance

Our first night camping at ballingup one of our fav towns while on the bibblumun colm again being chief cook and bottle washer!

Second night we spent at albany but due to the inclement weather we stayed in a hostel, here is greens pool not far from william bay campsite on the bib track

Amazing you could not have planned it if you tried we bumped into douglas in esperance, he is traveling around aust on his bike and from carnarvon we were just out for a bike ride around the coastal strip, the lycra set is alive and well ha ha. At this present time douglas has camped next to us but we have not seen him, perhaps he fell asleep early hopefully we will catch up with him in the morning.

We saw dolphins frolicking in the sea and it is so pristine the ocean here

Had to go out to lucky bay as well in the national park, it has been voted the whitest beach

I f no one hears from me I will be suffering from hypothermia.....the water was cold but apparently according to colm it was warm once your in...k?  Also the water is so transparent I had a look and thought ohh nearly stepped on a crab on the way out fortunately he wandered away

He's getting sustagen okay to put some more meat on those bones......

Got in time for tea and then a possum kept us awake about 5 times overnight trying to get our food

Between Nerang and Mt Cooke we had to climb the mountain and here we are it was only a 12klm day so we had morning tea here and checked our phones

Having a break the next day as we had to climb over 2 mountains, Mt Vincent and Mt Cuthbert and here we are having a morning tea break and checking phones again it was a bit of a hot day that one

The creeks and river beds are very dry in the bush need some rain this winter

Canning shelter we got to sleep in that morning as we were meeting lynne and brian who were dropping off our food for the next leg

Here they are good friends dropping off the food and they didn't seem to mind that we hadn't showered for 7 days and Lynne your a champion bringing chocolate cake for us and good to see Jarrah and Brian as well. Glad you did not listen to Jane and bring us tuna sandwiches, she is such a bad person for suggesting that honest, karma will catch up with you drew!

Well maybe lynne did when she smelt Colm.......

A chair was provided with a back as well and we were on the homeward stretch then only 70klms to go....

We decided that as the distances between huts was on 7-10klms that we double hutted and so we just stopped here at beraking for a tea break

This campsite was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire brought on by a lightening strike

Spectacular views and great setting for our second last night on the track, had the man, the mood and the moon how good is life I ask.

Morning tea at Helena campsite, we met another hiker Christian from Austria here who did not think that they had enough food to last till dwellingup and when we told him that north bannister did not sell track supplies we gave him some of our left over food - our stomachs have really shrunk!

Our last campsite for the track having a nana nap! I get tired waking up at 4am and then need to go to bed at 7pm! It was a freezing night.....brrrh and we cuddled up to each other through sleeping bags.....

Our clothes by this time were fairly stinking. On the way to this campsite we came across an Andrew who we had briefly met at Waaleigh and he had put his knee out and limping so even though I have not done orthopaedics for a while I strapped his knee with fixomul (only stuff I had) and a bandage I had brought just incase of a snakebite and seeing he did not have any pain relief gave him some aspirin clear, some people are so unprepared for treking. Anyway I was feeling saintlike at this time and when he came into camp he needed his water bottles filled and so colm started to fill them all 4 as he was then walking a further 3 klm to get his girlfriend to pick him up and there are a lot of bees around the water tank as the forest is so dry and would you believe that the first water bottle andrew drank from he spat something out and said was that a bee and you wouldn't believe it but the bee stung him on the tounge....fortunately he was not allergic and I said to colm, you have the worst luck even when trying to do someone a good turn!

Its the end of the walk as we know it.....the last 3klm was tough up rock faces and I turned to colm and said I don't think I can do this anymore its too hard, and he turns around and said what the other 960klms weren't? Que?
